Just Dance World Cup/2015

The Just Dance World Cup 2015 was the second annual Just Dance World Cup, held in 2015 by Ubisoft in collaboration with the Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC). The competition was announced on July 8, 2015, with offline qualifications held at various Ubisoft and ESWC events from July 11 to October 28, 2015,[1] and online qualifications held weekly on the World Dance Floor from July 19 to August 23, 2015.[2] Finals were held during Paris Games Week 2015 and was won by Brazilian competitor Diegho San for the second year in a row.

Qualifiers[]

Diegho San, the winner of the previous Just Dance World Cup, qualified automatically. The remaining 17 competitors were chosen through online and in-person qualifiers.

Offline qualifications[]

Offline qualifications were available at the following in-person events:[1]

  • July 25: Just Dance booth at the Mondial des Jeux Loto Québec on Boulevard Maisonneuve in Montreal, Canada
    • July 11-24: Free play and casting for the final
    • July 25: Final Tournament with the 8 best players
  • August 8: ESWC Stand (Hall 10.1, Booth A-046) at Gamescom in Koln, Germany
    • August 6-7: Free play and casting for the final
    • August 8: Final Tournament with the 8 best players
  • October 4: Ubisoft Booth (Show floor at the Dome) at EB Games Expo in Sydney Olympic Park, Sydney, Australia
    • 1-3PM: Final tournament between top online players, returning champion, and two wildcards
  • October 12: Ubisoft Stand (in Expo Center Norte) at Brasil Game Show in São Paulo, Brazil
    • October 9-11: Free play and casting for the final
    • October 12: Final Tournament with the 8 best players
  • October 28: ESWC Finals at the Just Dance ESWC Area (Hall 1 of Paris Expo Porte de Versailles) at Paris Games Week in Paris, France
    • AM: Free play and casting for the final
    • PM: Final Tournament with the 8 best players

Online qualifications[]

Online qualifications took place weekly on the Just Dance 2015 World Dance Floor (excluding Wii) from July 19 to August 23 from 5PM-6PM UTC.[2] Unlike the previous tournament, where the top 10 qualified regardless of region, this year’s competitors were split into 12 regions and the winner of each region moved onto the finals.[4] The top five from each region are denoted below, with the qualifying player denoted in bold.

Results[]

The 18 finalists were split into 3 groups of 6, in a format developed in collaboration with the gaming tournament platform Toornament.[7] From each group, the top 4 would move on to the Qualifying Playoff stage. During the Qualifying Playoff stage, the bottom 2 from each group would be eliminated and the top 2 would move on to the Group Finals, of which the top 4 would move on to the Final Playoffs. Winners of each round are denoted in bold.

Qualifying Playoffs[]

Qualifying Playoffs took the top four players from each group and split them into two groups. From each group, the best player would compete against the worst and the two middle players would compete against each other in a best of three format. The winners of each round would move onto the final group. The amount of wins for each player is denoted in parentheses while the qualifying player is denoted in bold. These matches took place immediately after the qualifying matches for their respective group.

Rules and Key Elements of the 2015 Edition[]

  • Selections are played on Just Dance 2015, the Grand Final on Just Dance 2016;
  • Participants must be 13 or older on August 23rd, 2015; qualified minors have to be accompanied by a legal guardian in order to attend the Grand Final in Paris;
  • Current world champion Diegho San (from Brazil) is automatically qualified for the Grand Final;
  • World Dance Floor selections take place on 6 different Sundays and are to be played from 7 PM to 8 PM (time zone UTC+2) across the globe;
  • Selections from organized events in Montreal, Cologne, São Paulo and Paris are only open to citizens from, respectively, Canada, Germany, Brazil, and France;
  • All qualified participants for the Grand Finale, whether through the World Dance Floor or the organized events, will see their travel and accommodation costs paid for (trip and 5 hotel nights in Paris).[14]
